The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario defines psychotherapy as:
A primarily talk-based therapy that is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Registered Psychotherapists may work with individuals, couples and families in individual and group settings. Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life.
Mindfulness is a technique that involves paying attention to the present moment without judgment. It has been shown to have a number of therapeutic benefits, including:
In Buddhism, mindfulness is a key concept that refers to the practice of being fully present and aware in the present moment. It is a mental state that involves paying attention to one's thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations without judgment or attachment.
Spiritual health and well-being refer to a person's overall sense of inner peace, purpose, and connection to something greater than oneself. It involves the cultivation of one's inner life and a deep awareness of one's values, beliefs, and purpose in life. All individuals have a spiritual health component alongside their mental and physical health and well being. Even atheists can have a spiritual self.
Spirituality is often associated with religion, but it can also be a personal, non-religious experience that involves a search for meaning and purpose in life. It can be expressed in many different ways, such as through meditation, prayer, mindfulness, or other practices that allow one to connect with their inner self and the world around them. All religions and spiritualities are welcomed at Inner Peace Counselling.
Some of the benefits of cultivating spiritual health and well-being through spiritual care include increased feelings of gratitude, compassion, and empathy, improved mental and emotional resilience, and a greater sense of purpose and meaning in life. It can also help people cope with stress, illness, and other challenges that may arise throughout life.
Inner Peace Counselling also helps individuals who have experienced trauma or mistreatment from their religious backgrounds, cultures or communities.
